Guy Fawkes Night Cupcakes

In Britain, we celebrate Guy Fawkes night on the 5th of November, to remember the failed gunpowder plot of 1605,”Remember remember the fifth of November”.  Today, it’s mostly just a fun excuse to light bonfires, wave sparklers and watch firework displays across the country, and as today was my lazy Sunday, I made up my mind to make some bonfire night cupcakes for my family.

These are hot chocolate Guy Fawkes cupcakes.  They are chocolate sponges with vanilla frosting and hidden marshmallows with a chocolate mug handle attached:

  1. Happy Bonfire night to you. There is no Guy Fawkes day here in Canada, but we have a community bonfire and fireworks on Halloween instead, which reminds me of caramel apples and bonfires growing up in England. Lovely cupcakes!

    1. Thank you! I love this time of year, but I haven’t actually had any caramel apples yet this autumn sadly. Hope you had a fun Halloween, thought your vampire bite cupcakes were great!

    1. Thank you! I searched everywhere to try and find neat letter cutters because I can’t stand the uneven floppy letters that my old metal cutters were giving me. I found tappits which are great for getting a neat print and are the perfect size for cupcakes. Also, flower paste rather than fondant is essential when using the tappits. They are a bit fiddly to use but look so much better than fondant cut letters! I use FMM tappits : )
